A 39-year-old man who attempted to spy on his female boss using a camera in a toilet has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service.
The ACT Magistrates Court heard former public servant Wyatt Chu had not wired up the receiver at his desk and had tried to retrieve the camera before anything happened, but
was caught after the camera fell and was discovered by the intended victim.
Magistrate Graeme Lunney said it was an extremely personal breach of a relationship between two people who
had worked together for several years and the consequences for the victim had been very serious.
But the magistrate said he did accept that Chu was genuinely remorseful and placed him on an 18-month good
behaviour bond in addition to the community service. Chu has also been fined $1,100 for separate firearms offences.
