The stage was set for Pep Guardiola’s men to wrap up the Premier League title and the champagne was on ice
by the time they raced into a 2-0 lead.
But United through the embattled Pogba gave a glimpse of what is to come next season with their breath-taking comeback win. In a turnaround that stunned the football world, Pogba sensationally levelled the scores with a brace before Chris Smalling condemned the Cityzens
to a second successive defeat in front of their home crowd.
It was a relief for supporters to see Pogba who has been frustrated at times and in recent months have been marred by a reported feud with Mourinho at his best again at the Etihad Stadium.
Matters seem to have calmed somewhat in recent weeks, though, and the Special One spoke about Pogba at great length in an interview with the Telegraph on Saturday night.
“I’ll tell you what I told him after the match – I don’t expect you to be man
of the match every week, I don’t expect you to score two goals every week. But I expect you to be consistent.
“The challenge he has is to find a degree of stability and not to keep going from good match to so-so match to bad match.
“The best way to achieving that is to aim for stability at training level, during the working week, and from what I have seen in the past two or three weeks I am really happy with him.”
United fans just like their manager will be hoping that such a brilliant team performance and such an immaculate showing from Pogba is a sign of things to come.
