VIDEO: Bayer Leverkusen 1 – 1 Barcelona (Champions League Highlights 2015/16 )

A Javier Hernandez strike was not enough to keep Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League as a 1-1 draw with Barcelona saw the hosts drop down to the Europa League.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring for the visitors, latching onto a precise through ball from Ivan Rakitic to calmly round Bernd Leno after 20 minutes.

However, the lead lasted less than three minutes with Hernandez smashing a shot into the top corner and past a helpless Ter Stegen for his 11th goal in 10 games.

Leverkusen pressed hard for a winner in the second half, against an under-strength Barca side, but were unable to find a way past Stegen with Roma’s draw with BATE in the other group game ensuring they finish third in Group E.
