Abuja can look like Singapore, Dubai – FCT-IRS

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has said the territory possesses qualities that can be developed to compete with best cities in the world.

It urged all taxpayers in Abuja to remit their annual tax returns to enable the city develop.

The Executive Chairman of the service, Abdullahi Attah told NAN on Sunday that the territory is a big city that needs money to maintain, hence the need for all to pay their tax.

According to him, that’s the only way to make the city like Dubai or Singapore.

The Chairman said March 31 would be the deadline taxpayers in the city to file their annual tax returns.

He insisted that the law requires every taxable individual to file a tax return within 90 days after the end of the financial year.

“Abuja is a big city, very modest city and expensive to maintain, the only way we can continue to keep Abuja of our dream is through taxation, so that we can be like Singapore and Dubai of this world.

“We have concluded arrangement to send Short Message Service (SMS) to all taxpayers in our data base asking them to file their annual tax return.

“I am appealing to all residents of Abuja that are taxable to do their civic responsibility and I am happy to state that at highest level, very senior officials of government have started filing ahead of March 31 deadline,” he said.
