Malawi head coach, Mario Marinica, has lamented alleged bias treatment by organisers of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon

The coach cried out over the conditions Malawi has faced at their hotel in Cameroon and declared that high-profile stars such as Senegal striker, Mane, don’t wash their underpants.

Malawi were beaten 2-1 by Morocco in the round of 16 of the tournament on Tuesday, being their first time in history to reach that stage of the competition.

Marinica’s men qualified from Group B as one of the best third-placed teams behind Senegal and runners-up Guinea.

However, Marinica did not find life easy in Cameroon for the period they spent at the tournament and believes that the smaller nations are the victims of a conscious bias.

He said there were no basic necessities such as milk, while a number of players and staff members have suffered food poisoning.

Marinica said that his team and officials have been doing the laundry by themselves and his comments follow similar complaints from The Gambia camp.

“You wouldn’t see Sadio Mane washing his own underpants and hanging them on a bush to dry,” Marinica told ESPN.

“Gambia have the same problem, and there are different standards here, teams are being treated differently.

“We talk about inclusion, we want to have minnows, small teams doing fantastic things, but when it comes to the latter stages, people don’t fancy us playing against Cape Verde and not Senegal playing Morocco [for example].

“Certain questions have to be asked; why are these things happening to us, why only to the smaller teams, why only to Comoros, Gambia, us?

“I couldn’t have milk for coffee, they said the milk was finished until tomorrow. We are treated like second-class citizens, but if you’re a hotel manager and you see this happening, you take charge, you can’t allow it in this day and age, at this level of competition.”

The Romanian gaffer and his Malawian side are now out of the tournament having suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of Morocco.

Youssef En-Nesyri and Achraf Hakimi scored for Morocco to send the north Africans to the last eight of the competition at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

This was after Frank Mhango had fired Malawi ahead in the seventh-minute.
