Bamise’s murder: Another victim opens up on Lagos BRT driver
One Victoria Anuke has come out as another victim of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, Andrew Ominnikoron charged with Bamise Ayanwole’s murder.
A police inspector testified at Ominnikoron’s trial before a Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
The female officer was cross-examined on Thursday by the defendant’s counsel, Abayomi Omotubuora.
Ominnikoron is facing charges bordering on rape, conspiracy, sexual assault and murder preferred against him by the Lagos government.
The police became aware of Anuke’s matter after an interview conducted on the defendant at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ikeja.
Anuke discovered that he was the same driver who sexually harassed her on December 29, 2021 in a BRT.
“She decided to volunteer and speak out. She first dropped the message on her friend’s social media space.
“The police searched for her to ensure she was not making up the story. She came to speak up about her experience,” she said.
Prosecution counsel Babajide Martins, after cross-examination of the witness, said there was no re-examination for the witness.
Justice Sherifat Sonaike adjourned the case until June 5 for continuation of trial; the last prosecution witness will appear.
Ominnikoron and others allegedly raped and murdered 22-year-old Bamise, a fashion designer, on February 26, 2022.
The defendant, also on November 25, 2021 raped one 29-year-old Maryjane Odezulu. Both incidents happened along the Lekki-Ajah expressway.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 165, 223, 260 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
