The Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has pleaded with the warring groups in Irepodun Local Government Area of the State to sheath their sword and give peace a chance.

DAILY POST reports that about four houses were destroyed while six persons sustained gunshot injury in the communal crisis that ensued between Ilobu and Erin-Osun on Saturday.

The crisis, it was gathered, started around 3:00 pm on Saturday at Oke Awesi, one of the disputed areas.

In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ismail Omipidan, Oyetola ordered immediate deployment of armed policemen with support from the army to restore law and order in the troubled area.

Omipidan, according to the statement, noted that the Governor made the order shortly after a marathon security meeting with Heads of Security Agencies in the State on Sunday Morning.

Oyetola counselled residents and citizens not to take laws into their hands, insisting that two wrongs do not make a right.

“As government, we are resolved to do everything possible to protect citizens from actual and potential threats. To this end, we have ordered immediate deployment of security operatives to restore law and order.

“I want to appeal to our people not to destroy our collective heritage by taking laws into their own hands. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I therefore appeal to the warring parties to sheath their sword and allow peace to reign,” the governor added.
