The Plateau State House of Assembly has called on Governor Simon Lalong to expedite action in ensuring the establishment of the Anti-Land Grabbing Board, which will facilitate the process of land recovery in affected communities in the state.

DAILYPOST recalls that the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state about a fortnight ago during a press conference on the security situation that bedeviled the state, raised alarm that over 100 communities have been grabbed from the natives.

Chairman of YOWICAN in the State, Deacon Markus Audu Kanda had said, “In Riyom, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs, over 100 villages have been taken over by Fulanis, you can do your background checks; but that is the really.

According to him, “Villages are attacked; houses are burnt, the occupants are either killed or displaced and the marauders go to these villages and occupy them; and the owners of those ancestral lands cannot go back there”, he decried.

Also, among the six resolutions the State House of Assembly gave Governor Lalong as ultimatum, the land grabbing issue was amongst them.

The House had asked the Governor, “To implement the Anti Land Grabbing Law to enable those occupying illegal lands in Plateau to vacate such lands and native owners to take back their lands”.

However, briefing journalists at the State Assembly complex, the chairman House Committee on Information, Hon Dasun Philip Peter said, “First, we thank God for the return of peace in the State.

“We gave a six item resolution to the Executive Governor to act on within two weeks. He has so far been able to address five of the items remaining one that is ongoing.

Among those addressed include; visit to Yelwa Zangam Community in Jos North and pay the hospital bills of those affected in the conflict, visit to extend relief materials to the Rukuba Irigwe Community, Riyom, Bokkos and Mangu.

Others include; to address people of Plateau on the Security situation and show to people of Plateau renewed commitment.

“To improve the security situation in the State by engaging the advance security operatives; to also suspend the planned Adhoc teachers recruitment and to replace it with the vigilante, and Local hunters.

“We call on the Executive to expedite action on the formation of the Anti Land Grabbing Board to facilitate the process of land recovery position of the House”, he stressed
