Police in Niger parade 32 for thuggery, robbery

The Niger State Police Command has arrested additional 32 suspects in connection with thuggery and armed robbery in parts of the Minna metropolis and its environs.

DAILY POST recalls that the police on March 14, paraded 44 suspects nabbed during a house-to-house raid in the state capital.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun in Minna said the current arrests were in furtherance of the house-to-house raid directed by Commissioner of Police Ogundele J. Ayodeji.

According to him: “Such sting operation will be a continuous exercise towards ensuring a lasting peaceful atmosphere in Minna metropolis and most especially to equally ensure a guaranteed peaceful environment for the March 18 gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Niger State.”

He explained further: “On Thursday, March 16, [the] Operations Department of the Command in conjunction with other tactical teams conducted another raid operation at Angwan-Roka, Timber Shed Maitumbi, Tudun Natsira, New Market and Dugudu Maitumbi where suspects were apprehended.”

The suspects paraded include Suleiman Abubakar, 25, Nasiru Yau, 18, Awal Hussaini, 19, Abdulrahman Adamu, 19, Hussaini Iliya, 22, Aminu Zayanu, 21, Hussaini Usman, 23, Afizu Usman, 18, Dahiru Hamisu, 36, Mohammed Lawal, 20, and Habibu Sada, 20.

Also paraded were Haruna Saidu, 18, Mustapha Abubakar, 22, Abdulkarim Hussaini, 17, Idris Alhassan, 20, and Aliyu Suleiman, 20.

Those arrested in Maitumbi include Abubakar Ibrahim, 20, Umar Bawa, 19, Jamilu Yahaya, 28, Ibrahim Bawa, 20, Muazu Zayanu, 20, Musa Isah, 19, Abdulrahman Ismail, 18, Habibu Yahaya,19, and Sadiq Usman, 18.

Those nabbed in Flamingo, and Tundun Natsira include Aminu Mohammed, 20, Abdullahi Alhassan, 20, Nasiru Mohammed, 22, Aanis Ahmed, 20, Mustapha Bello, 22, Aliyu Yusuf, 20, and Hamza Umar, 19.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include seven cutlasses, three saw blades, three knives, two scissors, three horns, six shisha pots, six phones, military camouflage trousers, and sticks among other items.

According to the police, the suspects who are presently in custody at SCID Minna where they are undergoing investigation, will be arraigned in court for armed robberies related offences.

The suspects are alleged to have engaged in blocking the flamingo junction and other areas to dispossess unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables.
