No fewer than 150 people from Dansadua Emirate in Mari Local Government Area of Zamfara State demonstrated on Friday in Gusau, the state capital, for the dethronement of their Emir by the state government.
The group, which stormed the state House of Assembly, said they were agitating for the safety of their lives and properties, saying that for them to achieve that, the Emir of Dansadau, Alhaji Husaini Umar, must be dethroned for his involvement in banditry.
The leaders of the agitators, Alhaji Ya’u Abbas and Alhaji Sani Labaran, commended Governor Bello Matawalle for implementing reports by the committee headed by former Inspector General of police, MD Abubakar, to dethrone all traditional rulers found guilty of involvement in banditry activities.
The group appealed to Matawalle to fully implement the report and finally sack the Emir of Dansadau, saying that it is a big insult to the traditional institution.
“Dansadau emirate has been under fire by notorious bandits and kidnappers for the past one decade now. It is no longer news that Dansadau has been the colony of banditry in Nigeria,” they lamented.
“We were claiming that we have an emir we could rely on in case of problem but little did we know that he is a bandit himself.”
But when contacted on phone today, one of the workers in Dansadau emirate, Mallam Abubakar Kabiru, said the protest was baseless, saying the emir as at now is still a suspect.
“How could they think that the state government will grant their request when the case has not been concluded by the state government.
“The former Emir of Maru was dethroned because the state government found him guilty of supplying logistics to armed bandits in the state.”
Recall that the state government, two years ago, dethroned the Emir of Maru because he was found guilty of collaborating with bandits in his Emirate.
DAILY POST also reports that the government suspended and arrested the Emir of Zurmi recently for also being involved in banditry activities.
